Mary Johnston Hospital (MJH) recently celebrated Nutrition Month with a series of engaging and informative activities aimed at promoting healthier diets through best food practices and have nutritional awareness by understanding the key messages about this year theme “Sa PPAN, Sama-sama sa Nutrition Sapat Para sa Lahat”. Held on July 17, 2024, these events brought together staff, patients, relatives, and the community to highlight the role of nutrition foe the optimal health of the body.
Zumba Dance: A Celebration of Our Body
The day kicked off with high energy and enthusiasm as participants gathered at Gumersindo Hall for a lively Zumba dance session from 8:30 am to 9:30 am. Led by the zumba instructors, this event was not only a fun-filled fitness activity but also a celebration of the human body’s strength and vitality. A recovery snacks and ion supply drinks were also given to all participants after the activity.
Awareness Campaign and Mini Food Expo
Following the invigorating Zumba session, MJH hosted an awareness campaign and ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Ground Floor Lobby at 10:30 am.
This event served as an opportunity to educate attendees about the significance of Nutrition Month. Informational sessions briefed participants on the healthier diets and best nutrition practices everyone can do, and some of the future plans of the Dietary Unit in improving quality nutrition services and make the intitution an enabling environment of promoting norishing food and healing services through pledge of commitment.
The ribbon cutting marked the opening of MJH’s Mini Food Expo, showcasing a variety of nutritious food options with caloric counts, and emphasizing the hospital’s commitment to promoting healthy food choices among its community.
Meet and Treats: Fruit in Cup Delights
As the day progressed, MJH continued to spread nutritional awareness with their “Meet and Treats” initiative. At 1:30 pm, MJH employees were treated to refreshing and nutritious fruit cups, highlighting the hospital’s dedication to fostering a health-conscious environment among its staff. This gesture not only provided a delicious and healthy snack but also reinforced the importance of incorporating fruits into daily diets for enhanced nutrition and well-being.
Nutri-Movers : Community Outreach
On our last Wellness Wednesday and to formally end our celebration, we hosted a Community Outreach at Barangay 166 in Tondo Manila. We provide basic food education to children as well as some snacks to fill their stomach. Through this activities, we be able to reach more people to learn more about the role of nutrition in keeping our community healthy as well as to help fight against malnutrition through healthy feeding among the children.
